Kind of a dumb article, but with a few simple truths scattered about. “T herapeutic” is a good word for it. Bonus Packard & Land Cruiser content, anyway.
I do need to wash my cars...

For whatever reason I’ve never found cleaning my vehicles enjoyable or therapeutic. I do it in the manner I would do other maintenance items, just something that needs to be done.
I think maybe I’d find it more therapeutic if I had more time, but for me I always have something more pressing to work on so washing my cars has always been more of a chore than anything else.

It’s therapeutic in that you can see a result and feel like you’ve done something, that your closing off the world for a while, etc... but also for people with anxiety or people who want to go outside and enjoy the weather but can’t sit still and want to keep occupied. It’s a great all rounder.
The annoyance is when people say they really want their car doing and arrange a time and place and either don't get back in touch or don't turn up.

If I have the time, and take the time, and wash them right, it’s therapeutic. But e xterior only, not interior. I get no enjoyment from cleaning the inside of my car.
Otherwise, I agree with you.

Wait, wait, wait... (as I understand it) you detail cars for people out of the goodness of your heart, and sometimes they no-show you?
Ah, hell no...

The focusing on one task, “closing off the world for a while” thing I definitely get and appreciate. I think that’s why I enjoy it (when I actually have and take the time to do it).

A clean car is satisfying but for me the act of cleaning is less so. I have pretty frequent back pain which probably has something to do with it. Maybe if I could sit the whole time I would enjoy it more. Instead I’ve just got in the habit of running my car through a touchless wash two or three times a month and cleaning other parts (exhaust tips, wheels) when the mood strikes me. Keeps the car more not-dirty than outright clean, but it’s better than nothing.
I find cleaning my apartment somewhat therapeutic , but it’s still more about the end result than the process. I just think more clearly in an organized environment.

Yeah, I do touchless until I have the time to do it right (not nearly often enough).

It's great, especially when something bad has happened or just a bad day.

It’s happened a few times.
Last Friday I was supposed to be cleaning a Mini Countryman, the owner works at a takeaway at one end of the street and his mother lives just four or five doors down on the other side.
I've simply started saying, 'sorry I can't, I'm busy'.
